Christoph Schulien

Ph.D., SVP of System Engineering

Dr. Christoph Schulien is responsible for system design and product architecture across the RANOVUS® product and technology portfolio.

Prior to joining RANOVUS®, Christoph served as Director of Engineering for the High-Speed Optics group within Cisco’s service provider product organization. In that capacity, he was responsible for the development of several generations of coherent DSP SoC and photonic transceiver subsystem solutions for deployment in multiple Cisco product platforms for IPoDWDM and optical transport.

Previously, he was co-founder of CoreOptics Inc and held the position of CTO and Vice President of the Coherent Product Group from 2006 until its acquisition by Cisco Systems in 2010. In this period falls the development of breakthrough coherent subsystem technology at 40G and later 100G, including the world’s first coherent 40G MSA transponder module. Christoph has held senior positions in product development at Philips and Lucent Technologies from 1992 until 2000.

Christoph holds a Dr.-Ing. and a Dipl.-Ing. degree, both from University of the Saarland, Saarbrucken, Germany. He enjoys outdoor endurance sports, specifically biking, hiking, mountain climbing and cross-country skiing.
